This website is only intended as a supplemental for class and in no way replaces BEING in class and interacting with the teacher and other students. Please understand that not all of the vocabulary we are learning will be in the videos. It is important to be in class, as discussions and questions can lend itself to spontaneous lessons and learned vocab. Using the tabs at the top, please choose which course you are in (ASL 1 or ASL 3/4) and then use the drop down menu to view videos from each unit. If you have any questions, please ask in class or email. My email is [email protected] |
“As long as we have deaf people on earth, we will have signs. And as long as we have our films, we can preserve signs in their old purity. It is my hope that we will all love and guard our beautiful sign language as the noblest gift God has given to deaf people.” – George Veditz, 1913
How do I use this website?
This website will be where vocabulary videos, notes, and interesting things related to ASL and the Deaf community are posted.
Visit regularly to practice with the videos, making sure you are signing along to take advantage of muscle memory. Language learning is all about repetition. Just a few minutes each day will improve your retention and skill. |
The best way for you to learn ASL and improve your skills are to interact with the Deaf community. Practice the vocabulary you already know, and learn something new by language immersion.
See me if you have any questions, or if I can help you by teaching some signs you may need when interacting with the Deaf community while at your after school job. |

Who am I?
Hi! I am Jessie Day, your ASL teacher for this year. I am a Westerville South graduate ('02), and a proud alumni of our ASL program. I am honored to have come full circle and to now be a teacher in this renowned program. I started as, and continue to be, an ASL interpreter and I began teaching at Westerville Central in 2012. I have an amazing family: my husband Jake, and our two kids, Maclan and Finley, along with 2 cats (Obi and Harley), and countless other critters that live on our property. |
